Londonderry basedworkers’ educationfirm’s winding up

A creditors’ meeting concerning the Workers’ Educational Association (Northern Ireland), which maintained offices in Londonderry and Belfast, is due to take place on June 30.

In a statement issued by the WEA explained: “It is with the utmost regret that the management committee and the senior management team of WEA-NI have found themselves in the position, due to circumstances completely outside their control, that we have been forced to wind the organisation up.

“With immediate effect all activities and services provided by the organisation will cease. The management committee and senior management team would like to pay tribute to the support we have had from our employees, tutors, learners, funders and partners.”

The WEA was set up in Belfast in 1910 and was part of a wider network of WEAs.

The first WEA was started in England in 1903.
