Lumiere top recipient of NITB funding on £299k

The recent Lumiere extravaganza was the top recipient of Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) funding filtered via the Culture Company this year, it’s emerged.

The festival of light received £200k of the total £750k NITB allocation during Londonderry UK City of Culture 2013.

Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann received the second greatest amount (£167,000) followed by the Return of Colmcille and the Turner Prize, both of which received £166,500.

The Walled City Tattoo made up the top five having received £50k.

Tourism Minister Arlene Foster stated: “The NITB provided £750,000 of funding to the Culture Company 2013 in Londonderry to deliver (the) five UK City of Culture 2013 tourism events.”

He added: “In addition, NITB provided £60,000 of funding to five other organisations in Londonderry who applied for support under the NITB Tourism Event Funding Programme 2013/14 towards tourism events taking place during the UK City of Culture year 2013.”
