Magee was a net winner following Ulster shake-upsays Minister

New academic posts were also created at the Londonderry campus as a result of the shake-up, initiated from 2010/11.

Dr Farry vowed there are no current plans to relocate schools from Londonderry, when pressed on the matter by SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood.

He said the aims of the 2010/11 restructuring exercise were to achieve efficiency savings; increase full-time undergraduate places at Magee; and, increase full-time

undergraduate places in the Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) areas.

Dr Farry stated: “In the context of the Magee campus this entailed: an increase in student places in computing; an increase in student places in creative technology; the transfer of pre-registration nursing places from Coleraine to Magee; the transfer of Irish from Coleraine to Magee; the transfer of History from Magee to Coleraine; and, the establishment of a new Centre for Engineering and Renewable Energy at Magee.

“This has resulted in a net transfer of staff to Magee and the establishment of new academic posts at Magee.

“Staff transfers associated with the above transfer of student places are being phased as courses are phased out on one campus and established/increased at another campus.

“Further to the above, the University has no plans to relocate any schools from Magee to any other University of Ulster campus.”
