Mayor met with several FDI candidates in San Francisco

Mayor Martin Reilly says he met several potential investors during a recent mission to San Francisco only to return to further morale-boosting announcements that two US firms were set to create hundreds of jobs in the city.

The Mayor had travelled to the United States as part of the Council’s economic development mission that’s running in tandem with the Clipper Round the World Race.He said the ‘Londonderry’ yacht had featured very prominently on news media in California arising from the dramatic rescue of crew member, Andrew Taylor, in the Pacific when the yacht was en route to the San Francisco stopover.

He said he was delighted to hear good news on his return with the announcement of over 300 new jobs with EE and last weekend’s launch by US law firm SmithDehn - whose clients range from HBO and Sony Pictures, to Paramount Pictures and Channel Four - of a new Londonderry office.

“I understand that this news is due to the success of a new media law course at Magee has inspiring SmithDehn to establish its new European front office in Londonderry.

“This is a positive endorsement both in the City and University by both SmithDehn and Social Construct Media.

“Clearly the prime mover Russell Smith of SmithDehn sees Derry as a source of talented people who are hungry for these high quality opportunities.

“I know they met a range of City partners during previous visits to Derry and hopefully this collaborative effort and welcome investment will act as a magnet for further growth,” he said.
