Mayor offers support to flooded Holy Family

Mayor Brenda Stevenson has pledged her support for the parishioners of Holy Family Church in Ballymagroarty after their Church was flooded following heavy rain yesterday evening.

Mayor Stevenson said she has offered the services of Derry City Council to assist the parish priest Fr. Paddy O’Kane to get the Church cleaned up and ready to host First Communion on Saturday.

“It is very upsetting to see the level of damage caused to the Holy Family Church in such a short space of time and my thoughts and prayers are with Fr Paddy and his congregation. I have made contact with Fr. Paddy and told him that Derry City Council will be happy to assist in whatever way it can to ensure the Church is fit for purpose to host the First Communion on Saturday. I am delighted to see the great community spirit in the Ballymagroarty area and the way in which everyone has joined together to help and offer their support,” she said.
