NW acts Picnic bound

LONDONDERRY outfit Little Bear will play the biggest gig of their careers when they join the likes of Bjork, My Bloody Valentine and Giorgio Moroder at the Electric Picnic festival in Laois.

Other North West acts on the bill include Bronagh Gallagher, Soak and Ryan Vail.

The boutique festival in the Stradbally Estate will be headlined by Fatboy Slim, Bjork and the Artic Monkeys.

Also playing are Two Door Cinema Club, The Knife, Wu Tang Clan, Franz Ferdinand, Chris Cox, Ellie Goulding, Eels, Noah and the Whale, Disclosure, Kodaline, Billy Bragg, Warpaint, Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club, Johnny Marr, The Duckwork Lewis Method - featuring Neil Hannon and Pugwash, Black Uhuru, Ocean Colour Scene, Tiga, Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin and David Byrne of Talking heads fame.

The local band have also announced a forthcoming show at Limelight 2 on Friday (October 4). According to the promoters: “Little Bear play emotionally literate rock, and are made up of Steven McCool (Bass and vocals), Mark O’Doherty (Drums), Ryan Griffiths (Guitar), and Conor Mason (Piano). Little Bear play Limelight 2 on Friday 4th October.”

Tickets for the Limelight gig are priced £8 (Exc Booking fee) and are available from all usual outlets.

Tickets for the Electric Picnic festival, which has been running for ten years, have already sold out.

Their appearance at the Electric Picnic is the latest big leap forward for Little Bear.

They got some welcome exposure after appearing at Dublin’s Hard Working Class Heroes festival then filled in for Two Door Cinema Club at the eleventh hour at Other Voices in Londonderry earlier this year.

Little Bear stepped up from the Other Room and took their place giving The Glassworks a spellbinding performance. Emotions were high on the night in the room when the local band took to the stage for their first ever Other Voices experience.

Electric Picnic will mark another milestone on their upward trajectory, with the local group sharing the billing with other up-and-coming and seasoned artists like Miles Kane, John Grant, Crystal Fighters, The Strypes, Mount Kimbie, Savages, Palma Violets, The 1975, Clinic, Space Dimension Controller, Terri Hooley, Cathey Davey, Lisa Hannigan, Jerry Fish, Rónán Ó Snodaigh and Friends, Donal Dineen and Little Green Cars.
