Plug-in carsslow to spark

PLUG-IN cars still haven’t sparked an electric response in Londonderry but new figures show there’s been at least some uptake from seven charge points in the city.

Last year it was revealed that between the activation of the E-car pumps in July and September just one charge point was used (The Diamond) and that this had been used only three times. Now new figures show four of the charge points were used 15 times between July and New Year’s Eve.

The Victoria Car Park was most used with eight charging sessions; followed by The Diamond with eight. Chargers at Carlisle Road and Templemore Sports Complex were used once each. But there haven’t been any drivers looking for juice at E-pumps in Bishop Street, Strand Road and the Railway Yard.

Roads Minister Danny Kennedy provided details on the number of charging events in response to an Assembly Query.
