£293k for exported drugs samples

OVER the past year 750 evidence samples in drugs cases were exported to forensic labs outside Northern Ireland at the cost of nearly £300k to the taxpayer.

Justice Minister David Ford said: “Forensic Science Northern Ireland forwarded 757 cases to laboratories outside Northern Ireland during the period April 2012 to March 2013 to meet the demand for analysis of drugs cases.

“The estimated cost of the examinations is £293,000.”
