£8m vision for ‘shared campus’

Two local schools are

planning to share an £8 million campus across their

exisiting two sites at Irish Green Street.

The collaborative work between the two schools and others in the Borough – one predominantly Protestant, the other predominantly Catholic – has long been hailed as a shining example of ‘shared education’ in practice.

Now, it seems the key players in Education in Northern Ireland may be prepared to back the local schools’ groundbreaking work in a major financial way.

In addition to their existing plans to build a bridge across the path known locally as the ‘Backburn Path’ to join the schools, the two schools are showing their lofty ambitions with a proposals for a major redevelopment of the entire area with an £8 million ‘shared education campus’.
