£9.5m jetset bill

CIVIL servants flew on 51k flights at a cost to the taxpayer of £9.5m over the past five years, according to Finance and Personnel Minister Sammy Wilson.

He revealed the astonishing cost of jet-setting officials in response to a Question tabled at the Northern Ireland Assembly.

The total cost of civil servants flying overseas to the people Northern Ireland was £9,519,362.44. There were 51,062 flights in total.

Finance Minister Sammy Wilson stated: “The Northern Ireland Civil Service Travel Management Contract is with a private travel company.

“Any flights booked outside of the Travel Management Contract are not included.” The spend occurred over 2008 - 2013.
