Solicitors still visitprison via search hub

SOLICITORS or other professionals visiting prisoners in Magilligan continue to pass through the visitors’ search area and there have been no changes to search procedures, according to the Prisons Minister David Ford.

East Londonderry MLA George Robinson asked the Minister whether doctors, solicitors and other professionals were no longer subjected to searches upon entry to HMP Magilligan, from April 8 2013 onwards.

Mr Ford replied: “Any professional visiting a prisoner enters the prison through the Visitors’ Search area. There have been no changes to the search procedures in this area.

“From April 8, 2013 any professional visiting the prison for any other reason will be subject to searches that are random, unannounced or intelligence led.”

The Limavady DUP man raised the matter with the Justice Minister by way of an Assembly Question.
