‘The more people know about effects of abuse, the easier it is to help’

FOYLE Women’s Aid Director Marie Brown has announced a new support programme for women who find it hard to talk about being victims of domestic violence.

Marie Brown said: “The more information people have about the effect of domestic abuse on the individual, the better placed they are to support them through this difficult time.” A new initiative to help family and friends of those affected by domestic abuse has just been launched by Foyle Women’s Aid. A half-day information session is being offered to help people get a better understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on their loved ones. The information session will take place in Pathways at 24 Pump Street Derry on September 23 from 10am until 2ppm. To book your place contact AVERT on 71363212. Foyle Women’s aid have planss for a range of free courses this autumn. Journey To Freedom, a 14 week programme, addresses domestic abuse in a group setting and focuses on positive change. Protective Behaviours, a six week programme, is about keeping safe. The Chrysallis programme, a 16 week OCN Level 1 programme, focuses on interpersonal skills, making choices in pursuit of personal goals and exploring the area of CV writing.
