Mr McKay, from Dungannon, had gone missing on the morning of Sunday August 3 while on a break in the Portrush area with some friends from work.

Although last night the body had not formally been identified, the PSNI believe it may be that of Mr McKay, who was also known as Adam.

A former pupil of Drumglass High School, Mr McKay worked at Moy Park in Dungannon and was highly thought of in the area.

Tributes have been pouring in for the 24-year-old on social media.

Dungannon Ulster Unionist councillor Kenneth Reid said: “It has been an awful tragedy, such a young life lost.

“It has been an horrendous week for his mother, his brother Lee, his father, stepfather and the entire family.

“Not knowing whether they were ever going to find him and I know his mother prayed that the sea would bring her son back.”

Mr Reid said the whole community had been touched by the tragic and sudden passing of a young man who was very popular in the area.
