The Walled City Tattoo has been a spectacular success.

Over 600 performers from all over the world have piped, drummed, sung and danced their way through two hours of flawlessly choreographed sets over the past few evenings and will continue to do so over the weekend (August 30 - August 31) bringing the history of the city to life through music and song.

The event had a distinctly cross-cultural theme, embracing the music and symbolism of both sides of the community, as well as those of countries across the world.

Speaking after the first night, Mr Reilly said: “Ebrington Square’s parade ground was the perfect setting to showcase such a colourful fusion of cultures and I would like to pay tribute to the organisers of the event for the painstaking attention to detail, and their success in bringing these cultures together in one performance piece.

“The show charted the city’s fascinating history through the centuries, from the siege to the shirt factories, and I’m sure everyone was as moved as I was by both the music and the storyline. The visual display was simply stunning, and for me this event was one of the real highlights of the cultural programme for 2013.”

Among the performers who took part in the world class display were over 100 pipers and drummers from across counties Tyrone, Donegal, Fermanagh and Londonderry, The Crossed Swords Pipe band, Afrikan Warriors, the Swiss Core Band Top Secret and Sontas, as well as a whole host of Highland and Irish dancers

The event will run for another two nights, with the final performance taking place on Saturday August 31.

Friday night’s show is already sold out, but tickets for Saturday are available from the Millennium Forum Box Office on 028 71 264455.
