Watch: BBC throws Spotlight on massive illegal dump
BBC Northern Ireland will tomorrow air a Spotlight investigation into the massive illegal dump near Gorticross, which was exposed by the former Environment Minister Alex Attwood last year.
The film, which will be shown on the state broadcaster at 10.35pm on Tuesday (February 18), asks how one of the biggest illegal dumps in Europe ended up in scenic countryside outside Londonderry.
In December, an independent report into the dump, concluded that illegal landfilling at both the City Industrial Waste site and the Campsie Sand and Gravel site just across the road was facilitated by lax enforcement by the DoE planning office and ultimately resulted in £34.6m in tax being evaded.
