WELB to pour money into sectarian interfaces and anti-social hotspots in Londonderry

Young people aged between 10 and 25 years will be offered a range of diversionary and developmental activities this summer as a result of the WELB programmes

Funding of up to £3,000 is available for work in areas where there is anti-social behaviour or in areas where there is the potential for heightened social unrest.

A second programme will fund projects for young people living in recognised interfaces and in ‘hot spots’, essentially areas where there has been evidence of increased or potential heightened tension.

This programme is aimed at diverting young people from involvement in sectarian activities, civil disorders and other crimes during the summer period. Individual projects under this heading will attract a maximum of £6,000.

Application for support is invited from groups registered with the WELB Youth Service and from bona fide voluntary or community organisations.

Applicant organisations should have experience of working with young people in a youth work setting and delivering the youth work curriculum.

They should also fulfil the funding criteria, including those pertaining to Child Protection and criminal record checking of staff and volunteers.

Units are required to provide a copy of their constitution, child protection policy, insurance details and bank account details. The closing date for applications is Friday, May 3, 2013 at 4.30pm.
