Worst level of112 recognition

SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson says Ireland has one of the worst levels of recognition for a free 112 emergency number across Europe. She said just 14% of people in Ireland know about it and awareness should be raised.

“It is to be regretted that in a recent Eurobarometer survey just over a quarter of respondents could correctly identify 112 as a number to call anywhere in Europe in case of an emergency. Indeed in my own country, Ireland, just 14% of the population when asked could say that they received any information on the number, despite the expectation that Member States and governments would inform their citizens of its existence. This is one of the worst levels in Europe but many other countries are doing little better,” she said.
