Alan Love, Peter Lindsay and Rebecca McBride are running in next Thursday’s local government election for the new Lisburn and Castlereagh Council.

“This is the first time I have set foot in Lisburn during this election and I am greatly encouraged by the response,” said Mr McNarry.

“Our candidates are fresh and our policies are fresh. We deal straight. That is quite novel and people like that.

“There’s been a very warm welcome on the streets of Lisburn. We have three great candidates and people have been coming up to us and telling us they will be voting for us. People want more than just Party politics.”

Lisburn North candidate Alan Love said UKIP were strongly in favour of the John Lewis development at Sprucefield and added that more could be done to improve the city centre.

“We have a ‘town centre approach’,” he said. “There’s a lot wrong with the way the town centre is and over the ten year life of the new council we want to reduce the rates in Lisburn by 20%.”

Downshire East candidate Peter Lindsay added: “One thing we will be calling for during the interim term of the new council will be that there should be a 0% increase in rates.”

21 year old Rebecca McBride, who is standing in Downshire West, is the youngest UKIP candidate seeking election. She said it was important that young people turn out to vote and make their voice heard during next week’s election. “UKIP has more to offer than just sectarian politics,” she said. “Everyone is fed up with the way it has been.”
