UKIP secures seat

Noel Jordan has taken a seat for UKIP on the new Mid and East Antrim District Council.

After securing a first preference vote of 749, he was elected in Carrick Castle on the sixth count (total 984.47).

The Carrick businessman, standing for local government for the first time, said: “I am delighted for myself and my family but I’m also delighted for the people of Carrickfergus who I can’t thank the people for coming out in bad weather and giving me their votes.

“I will be championing everything that helps develop our town.”

Veteran independent Jim Brown MBE, Carrick Council’s longest serving member, secured a seat on the new ‘super-council’ on the sixth count too with a first preference vote of 882 (total 997.9).
