UKIP select Ulster Scots enthusiast for Mid Ulster council election

Alan Day, a 38-year-old self-employed IT technician – he was born in Germany but largely reared in Scotland and Northern Ireland. He has a keen interest in Ulster-Scots history, culture and music being a member of the South Londonderry Ulster-Scots Association.

Alan is a member of the Orange Order and District Secretary for Ballyronan District LOL No 7 and is a regular church attender. Alan often blogs on Slugger O’Toole as well as maintaining The Orange Chronicle and Ulster-Scots Online websites. Alan is married to Michelle and has a one-year-old daughter, Hannah.

Alan said his priorities if elected are improving the quality of local services in the Coagh electoral ward.

“I want to see new businesses being given the opportunity to establish and grow in the area to create much needed jobs and opportunities for our young people and work to reduce red tape and bureaucracy for existing businesses and a reduction in rates for town centre retailers,” he said.

He said he will work with Ofcom to improve mobile phone signal strength and work with BT to get high speed fiber-optic internet provision as the present system is abysmally slow and hurts local businesses and private users. Alan also said he will work to get a similar reduction in fuel prices in rural areas as has happened in parts of Scotland.

“If elected I will serve all the people of this area in a diligent fashion and work hard on the ground to deliver results that will improve the quality of life for everyone,” he added.
