Ulidia surpasses targets

STAFF at Ulidia Integrated College have congratulated their Year 12 students on an achievements in this year’s GCSE examinations.

The results are the best the school has had to date, ranking Ulida in the top five percent of non-grammar schools in Northern Ireland.

“I’m over the moon with the results, and delighted that our students have surpassed not just the school’s high expectation and targets, but also the targets set out by the Department of Education to benchmark and measure academic success and high quality teaching and learning,” said Ulidia principal Eugene Martin.

“I would like to congratulate all of our Year 12 students and our teaching staff for their endeavour and dedication over the last two years. 85 percent of our students gained 5 or more A*-C grades, which is 26 percent above the Northern Ireland average.”

Meanwhile, the College also indicated 75 percent of all results were at Grade C or better, with almost a quarter of results at grade A* or A. 70 percent of students gained 7 or more A*-C grades. Almost half of all students achieved nine or more A*-C grades, while every student achieved at least five or more A*-E grades.

As a consequence, Ulidia has been inundated with applications from students wishing to continue their studies at sixth form level. Such has been the demand, the college will be taking the unusual step of seeking a substantial temporary increase in its enrolment number to cater for the academic needs of these students.

Success was however tinged with sadness as the college remembered Year 12 student James Kane, who tragically died during the summer. The school has extended their condolences to James’ family and friends.
