Ulster Aviation Society open day

At the Ulster Aviation Society at the Maze Long Kesh site in Lisburn City and ready for its Open Day to the public tomorrow, Saturday 24th August, which commemorates the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic, and with a wide variety of airplanes of all shapes and sizes on display, is Alderman Allan Ewart, Chairman of Lisburn City Council's Economic Development Committee and Chairman of the Ulster Aviation Society, Mr Ray.

This year’s theme is the Battle of the Atlantic and visitors will be able to see, touch and experience a variety of aircraft first-hand and up close.

They can also see helicopters through the day.

Lisburn City Council is supporting the event and is also a sponsor.

The Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, Alderman Allan Ewart, visited the aircraft hangers as final preparations were being put into place for tomorrow.

“The event will appeal to everyone, families and especially to children who will be able to see the many aircraft on display.

“It is a really interactive day and most people once they go into the hangers stare in amazement at the planes on show. The quality of what is on display is of such a high quality and so very interesting.

“Some older visitors may recall memories of the use of some of the planes during the war years.

“A huge amount of effort involving many volunteers, under the direction of the Society’s Chairman, Mr Ray Burrows, has been put into the event.

“We hope to see the site full on Saturday and would encourage people to come down and experience this very interactive aircraft-centred Open Day,” he said.

The day will include a display of the classic Buccaneer aircraft, Ballroom Blitz and the Air Training Corps will put on different drill displays.

The event begins at 12.30pm and parking is free and on-site.
