Ulster Unionist Party backing for Lagan Valley A&E campaign

Lagan Valley Ulster Unionists have pledged their support to the Ulster Star’s campaign to save Lagan Valley Hospital A&E.

Council Candidate for Downshire West, Alexander Redpath, said: “I was appalled to hear of the decision to close Lagan Valley A&E at weekends. There appears to be a campaign underway to close Lagan Valley A&E one step at a time. This cannot be allowed to happen as it is clear that capacity does not exist in other hospitals to meet the needs of the public.”

He continued: “I am particularly concerned that the shortage of doctors is being cited as the reason behind this cut in services. This is exactly the same excuse that was used to cut the 24 hour A&E service in Lagan Valley three years ago.”
