Ulster Unionists visit Garvagh care home

A delegation from the Ulster Unionist Party have met with residents at the Four Seasons care home in Garvagh, which is to close.

The delegation included North Antrim MLA Robin Swann MLA, Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, cllr Darryl Wilson and Coleraine councillor William McCandless.

They took the opportunity to raise a number of issues with the Northern Health and Social Care Trust and representatives from Four seasons.

Speaking after the meeting, Councillor William McCandless said:

“Our primary concern is the wellbeing of the elderly residents, and to ensure that adequate arrangements are put in place by the Trust and Four Seasons to ensure that all residents find new accommodation which best suits their needs.

“We have also raised concerns surrounding the staff situation. We will be monitoring the situation from this point on and will do all within our power to support residents and staff alike during this difficult time.

“We are deeply concerned about the welfare of the elderly residents, and the fact that that their care is being left in the hands of private enterprise and what is currently available for them in the market place of residential care.”
