Ulster’s 1958 elite enjoy Larne Irish dance festival

The current crop of young hopefuls were joined by a group of Northern Ireland’s first champions from 57 years ago.

In the inaugural championships, held in Bangor in 1958, Brian Bunting was boys’ junior champion; Grainne Agnew (Gilmore) won the ladies’ intermediate title; Kevin Campbell the senior men’s champion; and Thomas Graham, men’s intermediate champion. All four were present at the Victoria Hall last week. The other two inaugural champions were Bridie Kemp, senior ladies, and Irene McCann, junior girls.
