Ultimate survivors sought in Limavady sixth forms

COULD you be Northern Ireland's 'Ultimate Sixth Form Survivor'?

If you haven't entered the 'Sixth Form Survivor' recipe challenge yet this is your last chance to get your entry in for a chance to win some fantastic prizes and a place in the grand final.

Sixth form students from across Northern Ireland have been busy entering their recipes online at www.food.gov.uk/survivor with dishes ranging from banana on toast with a twist to a delicious strawberry and pineapple pavlova. Tips for a winning recipe include making it nutritionally well balanced, good value for money, quick to prepare and with easy to source ingredients. Deadline for entries is March 5 2010 so if you are a parent or teacher with sixth form students why not encourage them to enter by helping them think about, not only how to eat healthily but also new and fun ways to cook. Once all entries are in, the top 50 will be selected to receive 10 Clockwork Orange vouchers and a certificate. Five regional winners will be selected to represent their region in the grand final hosted by celebrity chef James Martin at the Ulster Museum on 23rd March 2010. The overall winner will receive 1,000 of home economics equipment for their school, 250 Clockwork Orange vouchers and a bespoke award for their school. The four runners up will also receive 50 Clockwork Orange vouchers along with a school award.

Speaking about the competition Elaine Donaghy, Communications Manager for the Food Standards Agency says:

"We have had a fantastic response from students all over Northern Ireland who have been busy practising recipes and entering them online. We want to make sure all sixth form students in Limavady have a chance to enter as we have some great prizes including Clockwork Orange vouchers. The grand final with James Martin promises to be a fantastic event bringing together the five best 'Sixth Form Survivors' and their classmates to compete in a live challenge which will be great entertainment and will also determine our 'Ultimate Sixth Form Survivor.'
