Undertone teaming up with vocal ensemble for Cathedral gig

Undertone Billy Doherty will team up with 30 strong Londonderry vocal ensemble Glórtha an Fheabhail for a special gig in St Columb’s Cathedral on Friday, November 20, at 8pm.

The Billy Doherty Rambling Band play a mixture of foot stomping instrumental arrangements of popular songs such as Teenage Kicks, Here Comes the Summer, The Orange Blossom Special, and many other folk classics.

Glórtha an Fheabhail - Voices of the Foyle are a relatively newly established, Londonderry based vocal ensemble. Having been originally brought together by a request from former Mayor, Councillor Brenda Stevenson, the group have been performing publicly since December 2014.

The group, directed by Ruth McPhillips, are creating a name for themselves for their alternative approach to their repertoire.

Described as “fresh and inviting”, Ruth’s method of direction has proven successful for the group with recent performances including ‘The Mayor’s Ball’, St Columba Celebrations and other civic events in the last calendar year.

The groups will collaborate to create an evening of a very unique nature. They will perform a full programme of surprises, including Undertones songs as well as some other well-known popular repertoire.

‘Bringing Choral to the “Tone”’ is the epitome of innovation in its rawest, most exciting form. Putting a local legend’s expertise together with a 30 strong vocal ensemble is not a task for the faint hearted and this world exclusive is definitely going to be a night to remember.
