Uninsured driver drove through built-up area with no lights on

A car which was being driven at night with no lights on attracted the attention of police and led to a 23-year-old woman facing motoring charges last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Stephanie McCall, The Square, Tandragee, was fined £150 and given six points for driving without having insurance on May 2 this year.

Fines of £50 were imposed for taking a vehicle without the consent of the owner, not displaying lights and failing to produce her licence.

The court heard that police saw a car travelling on the Portadown Road, Tandragee, at night and it did not have any lights on.

Checks revealed there was valid insurance in place but the defendant was not named on the policy.

The vehicle belonged to her father and he had not given her permission to drive it.

A solicitor representing McCall said that it was a genuine misunderstanding.

She explained that her client had previously been on her father’s insurance and she now has insurance.

The solicitor added that McCall did not ask her father for permission to use the car and was driving through a built up area which was well lit. She didn’t realise she had to produce her licence to police.
