Union flags removed in Limavady estates

LIMAVADY DUP has expressed thanks to the leadership shown within the Loyalist community following the removal of flags on the Edenmore and Greystone Roads.

In a statement they said: “True to their word, Loyalists had said that their flags would be removed on Edenmore Road at the beginning of September following the bulk of the marching season. This removal is in keeping with the respect the Union Flag deserves and prevents a similar scenario last year when many objected to the Union flag flying in tatters on the lead up to Remembrance Day. Leadership was again shown on that occasion when Loyalists took cognisance of public opinion prior to such a sombre day for many.

“The admirable leadership shown by the Loyalist community in that area is in stark contrast to Nationalists and Republicans who have promised much but delivered absolutely nothing. Their flags, many of which represent cowardly terrorist organisations remain, dirty and in tatters and fly against the wishes of the entire community in that locality.

“Everyone involved within Loyalism who took this decision are to be commended for the sensible approach on this matter, one which has been applauded by many throughout the community.”
