The annual Lenten Lunches were held every Wednesday in the run up to Easter in support of seven charities.

Visitors could enjoy freshly prepared vegetable or lentil soup, salad rolls, wheaten bread and a selection of home-made desserts, all prepared by parishioners.

Co-ordinator Austin Jenkins, of The United Parish of Saint Patrick’s and Saint John’s, paid tribute to all those who made the lunch-time events a success.

“I’d like to thank everyone who helped out in setting up the hall, preparing and serving the food, doing deliveries during the day, and clearing up afterwards,” Mr Jenkins said.

“It’s a very busy two hours and one day we had people queued up outside waiting to get fed!

“We had about 32 deliveries to do each day, all around lunch-time.”

With a total of £2800 raised, organisations which will benefit from the event are the Northern Ireland Children to Lapland Trust, RNLI, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research NI, NI Hospice, Chest Heart and Stroke, Church of Ireland Summer Madness, and Cancer Research.

“The charities will all receive £400 each,” Mr Jenkins added.

“I’d also like to thank our sponsors: Tesco Carrickfergus, Sainsbury’s Carrickfergus, Jack Reid Cars, Whitehead Spar and McMaster’s Butchers.”

Meanwhile, the charities were to be represented at a presentation ceremony in St Patrick’s this week.
