United States Consul General welcomed by The Corrymeela Community

The newly appointed Leader of the Corrymeela Community, Rev Dr Inderjit Bhogal welcomed Kamala Lakhdhir, Northern Ireland’s US consul General, to Corrymeela’s residential centre in Ballycastle at an informal gathering recently.

Rev Dr Bhogal was delighted to meet with Ms Lakhdhir. He said: “The Corrymeela Community is honoured by Kamala’s visit to our Ballycastle centre. It has been a pleasure to introduce our work to her and show her our new suite, The Davey Village.

“Our U.S.-Ireland connections have deep and considerable roots. The Corrymeela Community regularly welcome guests and volunteers from USA. We work with a number of USA parties we value and want to deeper the relationship and to work with the US consul General to enhance our vision and work.”

U.S. Consul General Kamala Lakhdhir added: “It is a pleasure to visit Ballycastle to meet with the new Director at Corrymeela.  Rev Dr Inderjit Bhogal will lead a facility with an outstanding international reputation as a place of healing and dialogue among those who have suffered through violence and polarization. 

“I wish Rev Dr Bhogal every success in his position, and commend those before him who demonstrated that the rewards of peace far outweighed the risks.”

Ms Lakhdhir will be attending the Commissioning Ceremony of Rev Dr Bhogal at the Ballycastle Centre on Sat 24 September.
