One local resident claims the lack of lighting on the Mid Ulster Council owned pathway has led to an increase in vandalism at a nearby secondary school, and described the path as “too dangerous to walk at night”.

Dungannon Independent councillor, Barry Monteith, has hit out at what he calls a “ridiculous situation” adding that he doesn’t “want to hear any more excuses about why these lights are not working”.

A council spokesperson told the Times a contractor had checked the lights last week and discovered a fault which had occurred due to vandalism. Repairs to resolve the problem are to take place at the start of this week, the spokeswoman continued.

The lights will be monitored on a regular basis for any issues going forward, she added.
