Emma proved she’s quick on the draw by submitting the winning entry in the 2013 Aer Lingus Art for Schools Competition which was open to P4, P5 and P6 pupils.

Pupils across Northern Ireland were tasked to design a rugby jersey that would best represent Aer Lingus as Ulster Rugby’s airline partner and the winner was awarded a day out in London courtesy of the airline. The judges, who included Valerie Abbott, Commercial Manager at Aer Lingus; Nadia Duncan, editor at ni4kids; and, Philip Polack, Business Development Director of Ulster Rugby, deliberated over hundreds of entries before choosing Emma’s creation which depicted a running rugby player carrying a plane under his arm.

Emma, who was presented with a real life version of the jersey before flying out with her Braidside classmates from Belfast City Airport, said: “I can’t believe I won!

“It is so exciting for my jersey to be picked from all the entries. I worked really hard on my design and am so happy that it was chosen.

“I loved the day in London, we got to visit the Sea Life aquarium and the London Eye. It was a day I will never forget!”

Valerie Abbott, Commercial Manager for Aer Lingus in Northern Ireland, said: “This was the sixth year of the Art for Schools competition and the most popular ever.

“The standard of entries this year was outstanding and proved what a wealth of artistic children we have here in Northern Ireland.

“Emma’s design was fantastic and we are delighted to have the opportunity to reward Northern Ireland’s great young talent. “We hope the adventure we presented the class with has further inspired their creativity,” she added.

Declan Kearney, Aer Lingus Director of Communications, said: “It never ceases to amaze us the creative ability and quality of the entries we receive each year.

“We really appreciate all of the hard work that the teachers and children put into the competition.”
