Update on Seacon speed limit

COUNCILLORS in Ballymoney have received an update regarding a speed limit at Williamson Park, Seacon.

A report prepared for councillors said: ‘Requests have been received from members of the public and elected representatives over a number of years for the introduction of a speed limit at Williamson Park in Seacon.

‘Up until now it has never proved possible to justify a limit under the policy that applied for the introduction of speed limits.

‘Roads Service has recently adopted a new speed management policy entitled ‘Setting Local Speed Limits in Northern Ireland’. This has permitted a review of the stretch of Seacon Park, which includes Williamson Park and Westfield Park, to be carried out.

‘For the purposes of this new policy the density and layout of the housing at this location can now be considered as a village. Although the requirements relating to the minimum length for a speed limit remain at 600 metres this can in certain circumstances be reduced to 400 metres.

‘It is therefore proposed to take forward the introduction of a formal 30mph speed limit on Seacon Park over a distance of approximately 400 metres,’ councillors were told.
