Eighteen week old Callan is being fostered by Catherine Southwell and underwent a life-saving operation today (Thursday) at Cromlyn House Veterinary Clinic in Hillsborough.

In a post this afternoon they declared: “Callan is awake and eating, we are over the moon, thank you to each and everyone who has wished him well, donated and showed us support, special thanks to Cromlyn vets for taking good care of this special wee man, we all have happy tears now.”

The charity took to the park on Saturday as part of an effort to raise money to cover the cost of the operation, hitting their target handsomely thanks to the generosity of dog lovers in Northern Ireland who have been busy raising money to make sure Callan gets a new lease of life.

The little pup suffers from pulmonary stenosis, in which one of the valves in his heart is too narrow, and he was in desperate need of the operation.

Pets at Home at Sprucefield hosted a fundraising weekend on Saturday and Sunday, March 7-8, with well-wishers donating to fund the operation and they also had the chance to meet the adorable spaniel.

He also attended, and even took part in, the fundraising walk at Lurgan Park for Saturday and proved quite a hit with all present (although as as our video shows it was a case of cuteness overload).

Every penny raised from each of the events went to the Callan Fund and will raise awareness of the charity Cavaliers in Need, who rescue, rehabilitate and rehome Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

Hopefully Callan will continue his recovery, we’ll keep you posted.
