Update: Vandals destroy Aaron Hughes '˜daretodream' billboard in Cookstown

Trevor Wilson said it was “beyond comprehension” why anyone should wish to destroy the billboard which was put up just last week ahead of Northern Ireland’s Euro 2016 campaign.

“This is a person who has put Northern Ireland on the map for the all the right reasons and it’s a complete disgrace,” he said.

The billboard at Fountain Road was one of a number put up in Cookstown by the Irish Football Association.

The IFA has turned thousands of photographs of the Green and White Army into giant posters of the Northern Ireland team featuring the players’ names, hometowns and the campaign slogan #daretodream.

Mr Wilson added: “I want to strongly condemn this vandalism. Aaron Hughes is an ambassador for Northern Ireland and Cookstown. Aaron will get his 100th international cap this weekend and I want to wish him well.”

He said anyone with information about the vandalism should contact the local police.

Earlier it was believed the billboard depicted Stuart Dallas but it has since emerged that it showed Cookstown’s Aaron Hughes.
