Speaking at the scene of the investigation, Mid Ulster MLA Michelle O’Neill said the local community was “shocked and stunned” by the incident.

The Sinn Fein representative for the area extended her sympathy to the victim’s family, adding: “Someone will be mourning the loss of a husband, son, friend.”

Meanwhile, SDLP MLA, Patsy McGlone, said there was a “real sense of worry” in the community following the incident.

“I’m extremely concerned by the violence we have seen in and around Coalisland in recent days”, he continued.

“On Wednesday a man was shot in the leg and now we’re hearing that another man has been found dead in suspicious circumstances.

“Violent attacks are absolutely abhorrent, regardless of who they’re aimed at. It would be inappropriate to speculate on motives or to draw links at this early stage but I will remain in contact with local police to ensure we do all we can to preserve calm in the community at this difficult time.”
