Update: Young children witnessed Cookstown road rage assault

A Castledawson nurse who assisted a man who took an epileptic fit following a ‘road rage’ incident in Cookstown on Saturday has appealed for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Donna Kennedy, came on the scene on Orritor Street and found a man slumped over the dashboard of his car.

The injured man had suffered an epileptic fit following a verbal altercation with another driver, after allegedly being punched by the male.

The alleged assailant, who had left the scene prior to the arrival of the emergency services, is described as around 6’ 1” tall, well built with short, dark flat hair. He was wearing hi-vis trousers and a black fleece.

The Audi is believed to have a possible partial registration of KHZ.

Ms Kennedy told the MAIL she had been in the queue of traffic when they reached the scene and noticed the injured male slumped over the wheel of his car.

She asked her partner to pull over and she ran to assist the injured man. She described how on reaching the vehicle the man was slumped over the dashboard, and there was a lot of distress and upset.

She said: “At first I thought he had taken a heart attack, I went up and said I’m a nurse can I help. There was a another nurse on the scene as well and she was very upset by the incident. I then assisted him in bringing him into a upright seated position and then began checking him over and asking him questions.

Ms Kennedy told the MAIL the injured man’s wife who was also in the car along with two young children were very upset and distressed by the incident.

She has appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the alleged assailant drive off to please come forward with any information to police.

Police are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone who can help identify the Audi driver. The investigating officer, Constable Cunningham, can be contacted at Cookstown police station via the non-emergency number 101.
