Carrickfergus branch of the PUP has been granted speaking rights at the December Parks and Countryside sub-committee meeting.

A party spokesperson said: “There is a great need for children with disabilities to enjoy their `right to play` and enjoy social inclusion. We accept and welcome that the council continue to take this in to account when planning, but feel that wheelchair users in particular have a very limited opportunity at present, and we want to help change that.

“We have been in contact with various groups and charities who deal with these issues daily, as well as parents who had contacted us to raise the issue, we are all keen to state that this is about enhancement of life quality with minimal cost”.

The party will also be calling for the local government authority to engage with the community during the planning process for the redevelopment of Legg Park.

A council spokesperson confirmed that a PUP representative will be allowed speaking rights to present his case at the sub-committee.
