Upgraded health careneeded in Carrick

EAST Antrim MLA David Hilditch has called for a progress report on proposed improvements to local healthcare facilities.

During oral question time at the Assembly, Mr Hilditch expressed his concern that it appeared no progress was being made on this issue, and highlighted that as landowners and potential partners of any future scheme, Carrickfergus Council were keen to see plans put in place for improvements to start as soon as possible.

Health Minister Michael McGimpsey responded: “My Department faces huge financial pressures on its capital and revenue budgets. When the position becomes clearer, I will have to look closely at my entire capital budget before deciding which projects will be delivered and the time frame for completing those schemes. Such projects include the development of any new health and care facilities in Carrickfergus.”

Mr Hilditch said he was pleased that the Minister was still giving his commitment to Carrickfergus.
