Upgraded pedestrian level crossing set to open at Meetinghouse Lane

TRANSLINK NI Railways is reminding pedestrians and motorists to take care this weekend, July 21 and 22nd, as the final stage of the upgrade of Meetinghouse Lane pedestrian level crossing in Dunmurry begins.

On Saturday, after the last train departs, the signalling system at Meetinghouse Lane and Dunmurry Level Crossing will be decommissioned. At the same time, Glebe Road will be closed to road traffic and a diversion will be put in place until Monday July 30 if required.

Meetinghouse Lane Crossing will also be closed on Saturday night until Monday morning when the new crossing arrangements will be commissioned and operated from Belfast Central. Pedestrians will be diverted over Glebe Road during this time, but once the commissioning has taken place, pedestrian access to Glebe Road will be closed.

Clive Bradberry, Translink Infrastructure Executive said, “We are pleased that the commissioning of the upgraded Meetinghouse Lane pedestrian crossing is nearing completion. We have worked closely with our contractors, Lisburn City Council and the Roads Service to complete the final stages of the work at Dunmurry.

“The work to replace the gates at the Meetinghouse Lane pedestrian level crossing with a new automated lifting barrier system began in February 2012. The new system will have improved safety features including a pedestrian warning light and an audible alarm and the barriers will automatically lower when a train is due to arrive. The crossing will also be easier for pedestrians with prams and people using mobility devices to use, as they will no longer have to manually operate the gates.

“We will be delivering user information leaflets to local residents and would encourage them to read this leaflet and share the information with their families and friends.”
