Upper Crust staff step out to help friend Danny

Danny Carmichael, who is well-known to the staff in the popular eaterie, has been left without speech after a recent stroke.

Originally from Larne, Danny now lives in Ballyclare, but his friends in the Upper Crust decided to do what they could to give him a boost.

Danny’s father, Earl, explained that they organised a sponsored walk to raise funds that will be used for voice recognition equipment to help Danny communicate.

“It is very frustrating for him not to be able to get across what he wants to say and we are trying to get him an iPod to link up with a computer that will help him communicate,” he said.

Earl said that his son, who is 41, suffers from an extremely rare blood disorder which made him more prone to the risk of taking a stroke.

“He is still recouperating and is just starting to walk again but he won’t have any speech. When the girls in the Upper Crust heard what had happened to him they wanted to help and it was lovely to know they were thinking about him.

“A group of 11 took part in the walk and we want to thank them very much indeed for their efforts,” said Earl.
