Upperlands woman punched neighbour in face and pulled out clumps of hair

Surita Lynn (28), of Carsonville Drive, Upperlands, was also ordered to pay £200 compensation to the injured party.

Magherafelt Magistrates Court heard that Lynn had contested the assault charge at an earlier court and the case was adjourned for sentencing.

A PPS lawyer told the court that on November 30, police attended a property at Upperlands following a report of a domestic dispute.

Officers spoke with the injured party who told them that she had seen the defendant and her partner in the defendant’s bathroom. She thought that the couple were having a domestic dispute so she called the police.

When the injured party told the defendant that she had phoned the police, Lynn punched her on the face and started kicking her.

The injured party broke free and went into the living room of the property but the defendant followed her and punched the injured party again.

She then head-butted her and continued hitting and kicking her.

The court heard that the injured party had sustained cuts to her face, bruising to her arms, legs and stomach as well as having clumps of her hair pulled out.

A defence solicitor told the court that on the date in question, the defendant had been drinking.

He said: “The defendant behaved in a way that she wouldn’t have, if she had have been sober. She is a young mother of three children. This is a very serious matter for a lady that has no previous record.”

District Judge Alan White said: “You are entitled to credit for having a clear record but you contested this matter when the injured party sustained a number of injuries which you couldn’t explain.”
