UPRG offer condolences

THE Ulster Political Research Group (UPRG) have extended their condolences to the family and friends of 15-year-old Kyle Bonnes who tragically drowned in the River Faughan.

Spokesman for the UPRG in Londonderry and North Antrim, David Macolm said: "In the aftermath of this tragedy, we have spoken to many people on the ground – some of whom witnessed the events as they happened. The UPRG wish to place on record their thanks for the work that fellow loyalist David Nicholl undertook in liasing with witnesses and the Office of the Police Ombudsman.

"Our thoughts at this time are obviously with the family and friends of Kyle. This incident has shocked the entire community and with the Ombudsman's investigation still at an early stage, I believe it is important that our focus should be centred on the need for Kyle's family to be told exactly what led to this needless loss."

He said that, given "the anger and concerns being expressed by residents", the Ombudsman should release an interim report as soon as possible to allay the concerns of those directly affected.

Mr Malcolm also said he was "disgusted" that details pertaining to a court appearance made by Kyle on the day of his death had been made public.

" It was totally irresponsible for a media outlet to do this at a time Kyle's family were having to deal with the shock and trauma of losing their loved one – and to make matters worse, they did this before the body of Kyle had even been released to his family," he said.
