Mid Ulster MLA Ian McCrea hit out at the “mindless thugs who are responsible” and said CCTV in the village was needed urgently.

He said: “I am once again disgusted at the news that another burglary has taken place in Moneymore, which is the seventh burglary in the past five months.

“This time the bookmakers was targeted over the weekend and whilst it is unclear as to whether it was Saturday (5th) or Sunday (6th), it is none the less another cowardly attack on a local business.

“I know the Council are currently reviewing its CCTV provision, but I believe it is high time that CCTV is delivered into Moneymore to help with the fight against this ongoing spate of burglaries and bring those responsible before the courts. I am therefore calling upon Mid Ulster Council to install CCTV cameras in the middle of Moneymore as a matter of urgency.”

The DUP man added: “Having spoken with the police, I join their appeals for any witnesses that may have seen suspicious vehicles or persons in the area on Saturday or Sunday night to please come forward as soon as possible.”
