US opens doors for local gospel group

A CARRICK gospel singer and his fellow group members are understood to be the first Northern Ireland artists to sign a deal with a major US southern gospel record label.

David Strange is a member of Co Antrim based gospel trio, Revelation, who have travelled extensively throughout the UK and Ireland during their four years together as a group. They have always been ministry orientated and have done a lot of work with teenagers and young adults.

And they see this new record deal as a great opportunity to take their ministry across the Atlantic to a whole new audience.

David said: “We have been praying a lot and really seeking out God’s will for the group, feeling that there was a new direction that the Lord wanted us to go in. Then the opportunity to sign with Crossroads came up.

“It is a fantastic chance for us to expand and broaden our ministry and we are very excited about the doors that God is opening for us in the United States”.

Revelation travelled to North Carolina during the summer to record their debut Crossroads project, which will be launched at a special concert on Saturday, October 23 in 2nd Broughshane Presbyterian Church Hall at 7.30pm.

The album entitled Across the Lands is infused with influences from both sides of the Atlantic. Southern gospel influences show in songs like the ballad Beyond the Open Door and the convention song I’ll See You Over There. Celtic influences are at the forefront in songs like See What a Morning and the title track, Across the Lands.

Most of the songs are brand new or new to the genre, but there are also two classics—an introspective rendition of the Dottie Rambo classic He Looked Beyond My Faults, and a version of the classic Irish hymn Be Thou My Vision.
