A 42-year-old man used a foil lined bag to try and steal games from the Tesco Extra store in Banbridge on February 5 this year.

Egidijus Mikalajunas, Rectory Close, Loughgall, admitted the theft of four Console Games, valued at £109, and going equipped for theft when he appeared last Thursday at Banbridge Magistrates Court.

The court heard that around tea time the defendant was seen on CCTV inside the store.

He was walking about talking into a mobile phone.

The cameras followed him and he did not seem to buy anything although he was holding a carrier bag.

Mikalajunas made no attempt to go through the check out and was stopped outside by security staff.

They opened the bag, which was lined with foil, and found four games inside.

They were fit for re-sale.

When interviewed by police the defendant said he had found the bag and decided to take it.

He denied taking the bag into the store.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, said he would consider a community based sentence and adjourned the case until April 2 for a specific sentence report.
