Used mobile phone while driving

While travelling on the A1 carriageway a 60-year-old man was seen using a mobile phone while he was driving.

And Banbridge Magistrates Court was told last Thursday it was his third conviction for this type of offence.

Robert Robertson, Roodlands Road, Girvan, Ayrshire, was fined £300, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and given three penalty points.

The court heard that on August 4 last year at 2.45pm was seen by police using the phone while driving on the A1 dual carriageway near Loughbrickland.

A barrister representing Robertson said this was his third conviction for using a mobile phone while driving.

Deputy District Judge Anne Marshall said the fine reflected the fact that this was the defendant’s third offence.
