UTV veteran to share memories

CARRICK residents have a chance to hear about the origins of a local television station from one of the presenters who was there from the start.

Anne Hailes, who was born in Greenisland and worked for Ulster Television from its foundation in the 1960s, will address a meeting of Carrickfergus and District Historical Society next Wednesday (September 29).

Anne, who also broadcast on the BBC’s World Service, fronted the medical documentary series Casenotes, produced consumer issues programme Ask Anne and worked on reports on conditions in Africa and Bangladesh.

Her talk will include memories of some of the era’s best known personalities - such as Frnk Carson, Anne Gregg, Ivor Mills and Tommy James - as well as visiting starts and studio mishaps.

The meeting starts at 8.00pm in the Dobbs Room, Carrickfergus Town Hall. Non members are welcome.
