UUP wants to strike blow for ratepayers

LIMAVADY'S Ulster Unionist Party says it will be aiming to strike a "zero rate" for the borough's ratepayers.

UUP representatives Jack Rankin and Edwin Stevenson appealed to the area's councillors to "work together" so that a zero rate can be achieved.

"The Ulster Unionist Party will be trying to achieve a zero rate on next year's rates. This can only happen if we work together," said Alderman Jack Rankin, "I would appeal to all councillors to work together to keep our rate lower than last year and aim for zero increase."

Limavady Borough Council came under fire in April of this year after a rate of 7.5 per cent for the year was struck. The Chief Executive of the Northern Ireland Independent Retail Association called the Borough's increased rate "nothing more than a tax on jobs".
